The Azerbaijan Grand Prix had several surprising moments. Max Verstappen had to abandon the race because of a flat tyre and Lewis Hamilton made a mistake during the restart. Daniel Ricciardo did not notice the latter during the race.

The Australian driver has been with McLaren since this season and is doing a mixed job there. Although he also drove a few good races, he is generally still searching for his ideal form. In Azerbaijan, he struggled again, although he did manage to finish ninth to earn points for his team.

Ricciardo saw that it was once again a versatile race. "It was typical Baku. Standing starts, rolling starts, crashes," he told Ziggo Sport. "I only just heard that Hamilton went off at the restart, I didn't even know that. And that Carlos Sainz had gone off at the start of the race, all kinds of things happen that you don't get to know."

Ricciardo satisfied with final position

The McLaren driver was generally satisfied with his performance. "It's a turbulent circuit, but for racing it's fun. I would have liked to score a few more points myself, of course. But we made it to the finish."
