De Vries unapproachable in first Formula E race of the season

The first race in the new Formula E championship was held on Friday evening. For Nyck de Vries, the season started well. He has been dominant in his Mercedes all weekend and wins the Diriyah ePrix in Saudi Arabia from pole position.

Safety cars

The race got off to a good start for De Vries. From pole position, he controlled the race. His lead disappeared though when Bird and Lynn collided and the safety car was deployed. Bird managed to reach the pits, but for Lynn, the race ends. Robin Frijns has now worked his way up from last place to 18th.

15 minutes later, the safety car came back out. De Vries tries to regain his lead, but he doesn't get much of a chance. Due to Gunther's crash, the safety car is deployed yet again. In the last five minutes, the race is back in full swing, with De Vries disappearing on the horizon to win the race. On Saturday there is a second race in Saudi Arabia.
