FIA to assess 'dangerous situation' with marshals at Imola

The FIA have confirmed they are looking into the situation that occured, involving the runway posts and the proximity of them following George Russell's crash.

They were close to the runway when Russell's Williams crashed behind the safety car. Although the safety car had entered the runway before that, a few cars passed at high speed.

This is due to the drivers who are a lap down to un-lap themselves during a safety car phase. The further behind a driver is, the later he is allowed to pass the safety car and this sometimes means that the driver has to hurry to rejoin the rear.

Stroll almost went full throttle

At Imola, it was primarily Lance Stroll who passed the incident with Russell at high speed. The team had ordered him to hurry up and therefore, despite the double yellow flag, he went off the gas-only very briefly. That is all in accordance with the rules and that is why the FIA ​​is looking into it.

"Race control was made aware of the issue and is evaluating whether any changes can be made to the procedures currently in place to further protect the marshals and officials and minimize the likelihood of a reoccurrence in the future," an FIA spokesman said as quoted by The Race .
