Wolff: "From a sporting point of view, such a suggestion gets my vote"

The Eifel Grand Prix was special for several reasons. It marked the return of the Nürburgring and the 91st victory of Lewis Hamilton. In addition, in the end the weekend only consisted of two days of F1 action.

The latter is something that Formula 1 may intend to do more often, starting with the upcoming Grand Prix at the Imola circuit. Although the uncertainty among the teams on Saturday in the Eifel was great, in the end, it all ended well and the format can count on positive reactions.

"Personally I like it," says Toto Wolff according to Auto Motor und Sport. "It's not the strongest who wins, but the one who can adapt best. So it's the most innovative team and the driver who can adapt to the track and tyres the quickest. So, from a sporting point of view, such a suggestion gets my vote."

Lewis Hamilton also likes the idea and sees another advantage in addition to the challenge. "It means that 22 days a year, 20 less cars will tear around the track and pollute the air. I can do without Fridays."

Ferrari is sceptical

A dissent came from the Ferrari camp, where Binotto argues for a longer practice session on Saturday if the free practice sessions on Friday are cancelled. Vettel also feels sorry for the fans, who have less time to enjoy the cars on the track. "The preparation for the Grand Prix will then take place behind closed doors," Vettel says.
