Honda is willing to support Red Bull after 2021

Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of next year causing Red Bull Racing to fall into a hole. Will they have to go back to Renault? Team up with Mercedes or Ferrari, or maybe stop in Formula 1? There might be some light at the end of the tunnel...

Make your own engine

One option could be for Red Bull Racing to take over the engine development from Honda. This would allow the team to set up its own power development program, possibly with the technical support of an external partner. As a result, Red Bull Racing will have it under their own control, giving them more freedom. After all, they would be completely independent.

Such a question has not been put to Honda, writes The Race, who spoke with the engine manufacturer. Nevertheless, Honda may be open to working together in this way. Honda wants to leave Formula 1 in a nice way and if the current cooperation in any form can bear fruit in the long term, that would be nice.

We would like to continue to give support

Masashi Yamamoto said in an interview with The Race, "Honda is happy to talk to them if they need us in any way, not only about the power unit but about other things as well. To support AlphaTauri and Red Bull for their program after 2021 in any way, we’re happy to cooperate.

"As Honda we had so many things from the teams, so we want to give it back somehow in a nice way for the future."

How far that goes is not clear, because Yamamoto says he needs to talk to Japan about that, which he would like to do on behalf of Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri.

"I personally want to support as much as possible. So, we want to support and help them in whatever way we can help them for the future," Yamamoto said.
