Lando Norris, coureur van McLaren, zegt dat het spelen van videogames hem helpen bij het voorbereiden voor een Grand Prix. De jonge Brit ziet de voordelen van de virtuele spellen wel in.

Norris has had an excellent season so far. He is fourth in the World Championship and this season he also achieved his first podium in Formula 1. Despite his age, he shows a lot of racing skill and speed. He is not afraid of a fight, both on and off the track. During the lockdown period Norris started streaming games on Twitch, an online streaming service.

"Games make me feel the same way"

He sees many similarities between playing games and driving a Formula 1 car, he says in a long interview on the Formula 1 website. "When I play games that require a lot of brainpower, they keep me focused and that gives me the same feeling as when I drive a Formula 1 car. How can I do this better? How can I take this corner better? Where can I overtake the car in front of me?"

"Driving a car and playing a game like Call Of Duty (a first person shooter) is of course very different, but there are also many things that correlate with each other. The way you think about some things, the strategies you come up with to defeat your enemy: what do I have that the other person doesn't have? Achieving perfection, muscle memory and managing a lot of information in order to be able to make quick decisions. The two are very much alike," concludes Norris.
