Adrian Newey will leave Red Bull Racing in 2025. That's a statement that was not expected even six months ago. When speaking about a hypothetical situation, Newey described a Red Bull departure as walking on his family.

How Newey previously described a Red Bull departure

Newey made these statements when speaking hypothetically in December 2023 on David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan's Formula for Success podcast. Since then, Red Bull has experienced a turbulent time. This is largely down to the power struggle within the Red Bull team, and the accusations made against Christian Horner about inappropriate behaviour. The team boss has been cleared, but the case is currently going through an appeal process.

Newey has never ruled out leaving Red Bull and has always spoke about an interest with Ferrari"Ferrari is this magic brand that I suppose, in all honesty, probably everybody in motor racing is always fascinated by and tempted to join if there's the opportunity," Newey said.

"I've been at Red Bull, more or less from the start. It's a team that I've been very centrally involved in developing the engineering side. So it's a team I kind of feel comfortable with. We all know how we work. I'm not saying I'll never ever change. Never say that. But it would be like walking out on your family because that's what it's become," Newey concluded in December 2023.

It has now been confirmed that Newey will indeed walk away from Red Bull Racing. His future remains uncertain. The 65-year-old will be on the list of most teams given the amount of success he has received, but Ferrari seem to be the frontrunners.
