Major repairs at McLaren after minor crash Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz crashed during the first free practice. Although it was not a hard blow and apart from some damage to the rear wing there seemed little to worry about, but Andreas Seidl, team boss at McLaren, explained how big the impact of that mistake is on their weekend.

"The Crew did a fantastic job getting the car ready for free practice two," Seidl told Sky Sports. "He hit the barrier with the rear and unfortunately the crash structure was damaged. So we had to change the entire rear axel."

"Because we couldn’t complete the program in free practice one, we’re still in the middle of the comparison between the noses. Hopefully we’ll have a clear picture for the rest of the weekend tonight.

"The soft tyre will be on the edge here. It will definitely be just a quali tyre and not a race tyre. But the time difference is so big that you probably have to use it in qualifying."
