Wolff on 'copygate': 'I will no longer act as an intermediary'.

Racing Point had a hard time when it became clear what trick they had pulled to start the F1 season 2020 strongly. Because they rebuilt last year's Mercedes car, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff also often comes into disrepute this year. Wolff is no longer in the mood for that.

Racing Point and Mercedes receive the same criticism

Mercedes is also held responsible by some parties for Racing Point's illegal practices. The 2019 Mercedes was almost entirely rebuilt by Racing Point and it is expected that Mercedes must have helped them to do so.

It has not yet led to an official protest against Mercedes, but Racing Point and Mercedes are still mentioned in the same breath when it comes to apportioning blame. In response to this, Wolff says that he no longer wants to act as an intermediary in discussions between certain teams.

Talking to Motorsport-total.com, Wolff looks back on a conversation he had at Silverstone with McLaren, Williams and Renault: "It was really just a discussion between four teams, nothing more. I don't see it as a mediating role myself. It was an open discussion about where we are now in F1 after the 'Racing Point copygate'. I gave my opinion on that".

In the future he will want to stay out of the subject as much as possible. Ferrari and Renault have officially objected to the penalty imposed by the FIA, and Wolff believes that Mercedes now has little to do with it.

"In the future I would prefer not to discuss this," said the Mercedes team boss.
