Recently there was great dissatisfaction from the Mercedes camp about the upcoming Concorde Agreement. The team said it would have to sacrifice too much money compared to its competitors and therefore said it would not sign the current proposal yet. That seems to be happening now anyway.

At AutoBild Motorsport they are convinced of this. According to a 'reliable' source known to them, Mercedes will simply sign the Concorde Treaty before the deadline of August 12th.

Mercedes and Hamilton on their way to eighth world title

Mercedes will therefore remain active in sport as a factory team at least until the end of 2021. What happens after that, however, is still uncertain. The team could possibly stop as a factory team and hand over to a new owner. A relaxation clause in the current contract makes that possible.

Essentially Mercedes postpones their decision about their future in Formula 1 by one year. They can easily do that, because the technical regulations will remain the same for another year and so they can go on record hunting with Lewis Hamilton for relatively little money.
