Webber doesn't understand anything about Ferrari: ''This is the second chance''

Mark Webber doesn't understand anything about Ferrari. Where Daniel Ricciardo has been associated with the illustrious Italian brand for years, Ferrari now prefers Carlos Sainz over the Australian after Charles Leclerc. His compatriot is stunned.

''This is the second chance that Ferrari could have taken Daniel and somehow the weather didn't work out. There's a lot in Daniel's favor. I really don't understand. Why wasn't there a match between the two? Charles and Daniel get along well, but perhaps Ferrari found them too close," says Webber at the podcast F1 Nation.

However, when it became clear that Sebastian Vettel was leaving, there was no talk at all with Daniel. Talks with Carlos were at a more advanced stage and the Spaniard was lured to Ferrari before 2020. McLaren soon gave the approval, after which Sainz can make the switch in 2021.

''I think independent teams from 2021 are in a good position to compete for prizes again. Certainly McLaren, because they also have Mercedes engines. In addition, the new regulations are a good chance to get to the top and in that respect McLaren can only improve'', concludes Webber.
