Last Friday it seemed almost impossible but now there seems to be a big chance that the GP at Silverstone will continue. An exception has been made to the corona measures for the F1 event. Reportedly Boris Johnson himself intervened and pleaded for the passage of the event.

Because of the measures taken by the British government, it turned out that it would be impossible to get the entire F1 circus of Austria back to Silverstone in time for the second round of the season. This is because a quarantine of two weeks is needed before people are allowed to enter the country.

If the two races in Austria continue as planned, it will not be possible to complete the two weeks quarantine in time. As of June 8th, this is expected for all travellers to the UK. The options to go to Hungary or Germany for the third and possibly fourth race of the season have already been seriously considered.

Exception arranged by Boris Johnson

It was precisely the Prime Minister of the country who ensured that the event was likely to go ahead. At least the Times reports that 'the British GP can go ahead after Boris Johnson personally intervened to arrange an exception for the two races on the circuit'.

The Premier was in hospital not too long ago due to the coronavirus. There is no official confirmation yet but the chances are very good that the second round and the third race will take place in the UK on July 26th.
