Wolff's leaving. ''They can do that job just as well as I can.''

Toto Wolff stayed at the factory during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Austrian said he had other things on his mind, but that's where speculation started. A new interview with the Mercedes team boss doesn't help with that.

Wolff more and more in the background

They've been pulling Wolff for ages. For example, the Austrian would be the dream candidate to succeed Chase Carey at the top of Formula 1, he is on the list to replace Jean Todt at the FIA and his new shares in Aston Martin have also helped to dispel the rumour that he might want to join that brand.

However, for the time being Wolff is not going anywhere, but he does state that he is replaceable. ''If one of us is sick or has to travel a lot, the others can take care of it. Everything doesn't suddenly come to a standstill and I'm proud of that'', says Wolff in the 'Dive Deep' video from Mercedes. Wolff mentions two names that stand out.

Everyone is replaceable

''If I want to concentrate on other things, I call James Allison or Rob Thomas and ask them to take over because I'm not available. That's not a problem, because that way I know they could do my job as well as I could and that's a comfortable feeling''.

The recipe for being responsible as a team has borne fruit in recent years. Not only did Mercedes become world champion six times, but it also managed to cope with internal changes without any problems. The loss of Niki Lauda, Ross Brawn and Paddy Lowe has gone unnoticed in that respect.
