The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has already been postponed, but the question is whether the race in 2020 will be back on the calendar. First, the season has to start again and then there still has to be room on the overcrowded calendar.

Arif Rahimov realises this all too well. The promoter of the organization of the GP in Baku talked to GPupdate.net about the postponed Grand Prix, but also looked at the possible options. According to Rahimov there are not many options and so there seems to be a chance that the Grand Prix will not be held in 2020.

Will Azerbaijan return?

''We have already organised the race in April and June, but the school holidays are of course essential. If we aim for a race at the start of the new school season, it will be very difficult to organize a race. September 15th is the start of the schools, so that would be better.''

So there are limitations to the flexibility of the organization. ''You need at least two to three months of preparation time and the race must also be held in the warm season, otherwise we have completely empty grand stands. We aim for mid-October at the latest, but the chance that the virus is still present is of course still there'', concludes the promoter.
