With the FIA already telling Mercedes to remove one part off their car at the request of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, the Silver Arrows insist they will still be using the DAS system in Australia, even though Red Bull have said they will file an official complaint if they do.

Legal?

The question remains whether the DAS-system will be officially allowed by the regulations. The FIA has already indicated the details of the system are compliant to the rules, but opinions are divided about the same system. While the advantage it provides is clear, it could be an unfair one. That's why Red Bull are planning to file a protest if Mercedes carry on using it.

The Silver Arrows are not letting themselves get intimidated, however, saying they will use the system as planned in Melbourne as they seek to exploit every advantage they might have over their rivals.

"The season has only just started, and however small the advantage is, it's unreasonable to give up every advantage we could have over Red Bull and Ferrari," a Mercedes spokesperson told Auto, Motor und Sport.

"That's why we will carry on using the DAS-system in our car at the risk of the protest."
