Honda's F1 Technical Director, Toyoharu Tanabe has admitted the results the Canadian Grand Prix yielded were not as good as hoped for but he has praised the fight shown by Daniil Kvyat.

Honda finished with three cars in the points at the race in Montreal with Max Verstappen climbing from ninth to fifth, Pierre Gasly finishing eighth and Daniil Kvyat earning a hard-fought tenth place. Alex Albon was the only Honda-powered driver to finish outside the points as he failed to finish the race.

Max Verstappen was hindered in qualifying for the race as he exited in Q2 because of Kevin Magnussen's crash and Tanabe rued the qualifying session.

"We leave Canada having got three cars in the points, but in every case not as high up as we would have liked, after a difficult qualifying on Saturday," Tanabe told the Toro Rosso website.

"Daniil never gave up fighting and claimed his point for tenth right at the very end.

"As for Alex, he was unlucky to be involved in a first lap collision which meant he had to pit to change the nose and there was nothing much he could do from there."

"We must work to improve in order to perform better as soon as possible, given that we are now coming to our first back-to-back races in France and Austria."
