James Key's proper start at McLaren in Bahrain marked his arrival at the team, nine months after it was confirmed he would sign for them and he's admitted: "it was good to take a break".
Key joined up with his team at the Bahrain Grand Prix having been apart of the Toro Rosso setup since 2012 where he held the Technical Director role. However, it was confirmed he'd leave the setup at the Red Bull junior team in July 2018 to join McLaren where he replaced Tim Goss.
After all the difficulties that followed in the following months, Key admitted it was nice to finally have some time off.
"I was pretty exhausted anyway, so it was good to take a break," Key told Motorsport-Total.
"Of course you anticipate what's coming - especially if you join a new team.

"You anticipate it, and it also worries you in some way - you're dealing with it."
With McLaren fourth in the Constructors' Championship, the Brit admitted the team will have a better idea of what the future holds in the coming months.
"At the moment the plans are being developed, and in the next few months we will have a clearer picture of how we will approach it," he added.
