FIA to introduce physical checks on fuel usage

The FIA are set to introduce more physical checks to monitor fuel usage by Formula 1 teams in 2019.

According to Autosport, the new procedures suggest the FIA could have been informed about some "grey areas" last season concerning fuel usage in grands prix and now they are determined to investigate the matter further.

So, teams will now be asked to display how much fuel they are planning to put in its car for the race.

FIA boss Jo Bauer and his colleagues will then be able to weigh the cars before and after the race to see how much fuel has been used by each team and see if it matches to what they had initially planned.

The amount of fuel has to be in the car's tank one hour prior to when the pit lane is being opened and then there will be no more fuel chilling allowed once the lane has opened.

The governing body will then be allowed to randomly check each team's car before the race starts and then weigh the car with 'travel wheels' marked by the FIA.
