lando norris on qualifying at the monaco grand prix 2024

Norris on the chances of a podium in Monaco: 'That's our normality now'

After backing up his fantastic victory at the Miami Grand Prix by pushing Max Verstappen all the way to the line at the Emila Romagna Grand Prix, Lando Norris knows the quality of his McLaren. After winning in Florida with a newly-updated McLaren, he pushed the three-time World Champion in his RB20 to the final lap, finishing just a second behind.

Now in Monaco, the 24-year-old was able to outqualify an out-of-sorts Red Bull, but it was only good enough for fourth place. Ahead of him are Charles Leclerc, his teammate Oscar Piastri, and the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. With overtaking around the streets of the principality tricky, to say the least, Norris knows his work will be cut out. However, he knows he is in the thick of the action, and speaking to Sky Sports after qualifying, the Brit will want to keep this great for going.

Norris worried about Ferraris 'dangerous position'

"We are in the middle of the action, but that is our normality now," said Norris. "It's lovely! It's exciting. But I'm one place off getting on the podium. And, of course, that will be our goal for tomorrow. But we kind of know not a lot's going to happen. So it's all about the start. It's all about the strategy and tyres and pit stops. So that's going to be where the effort is."

However, Norris knows that having the two Ferraris in front is not the ideal situation for him and his team: "They [Ferrari] can do what they want. That's a dangerous position. Yeah, we can’t let that happen. We need Oscar to get a good start. And at the same time, if that can happen, then maybe we can try to use our best way to attack the Ferraris. As much as I say that, there are a lot of quick cars behind. And we've got to watch out for them. So it's going to be exciting. Hopefully, we can push them. And people who make the least mistakes are going to be the ones who win as well."
