Charles Leclerc had a good Friday in terms of getting up to speed in his home Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver topped FP2, and seemed to have strong place also on the medium and hard tyres in FP1. The Monegasque also praised his future teammate, Lewis Hamilton, after the two Friday sessions.

"I mean, I think we kind of arrived here knowing that anything was possible. As I said, in 2021, we didn't have a particularly good job, but coming into Monaco, the characteristics of our car was proving that we are particular track and we are fast," Leclerc began to Sky Sports.

Leclerc now believes Mercedes could replicate their result from 2021, while he also praised his future teammate, Lewis Hamilton: "Mercedes have been struggling since the beginning of the season, they are very fast this weekend, so we expect them to be just the same tomorrow. Lewis has been on it all day. So, we've got to maximise everything tomorrow and hopefully it will bring home."

Earning a result in the race is more important

The Ferrari driver hopes his form from Friday could continue during the rest of the weekend. "I think there's just more basically, just putting everything together. If you look my three sectors, there was quite a bit of lap timing then when you put all of it together. So that would be the main focus for tomorrow. But let's say that performance is there."

Leclerc has been on pole position twice before in Monaco, but failed to step on the podium in his careerr in his home race. Therefore, on a track where qualifying is more important, Leclerc would still like to focus more on the Sunday. "I've taken about two poles in the past, but then the Sunday result wasn't the one I wanted. So if we manage to do so, which is the best starting place for Sunday, we'll have to focus well on Sunday in order to put everything together to finally get that one."
