Schumacher family receive €200,000 after AI-generated 'interview'

April 2023 saw the Schumacher family take legal action against German magazine Die Aktuelle, after they published an 'interview' with the Formula 1 legend Micheal, which was actually an AI-generated interview.  They have now won their case, and will receive €200,000 compensation.

Ferrari great Schumacher has not been seen in public since suffering a serious brain injury in a skiing accident whilst on a family holiday in the French Alps in December 2013.

Die Aktuelle ran a front cover in April 2023, which promised a 'first interview' with Schumacher since his accident, alongside a photo of him smiling from his time at Mercedes. The strapline read "It sounded deceptively real" but inside, the quotes were revealed to be from artificial intelligence. The editor of the magazine was sacked last year.

The family will now receive €200,000 (£170,151) in compensation.

The family of the seven-time world champion have maintained strict privacy over his condition since his accident, which limits access only to those closest to him.

    Not the first time

It wasn't the first time Die Aktuelle made a mistake regarding Schumacher. In 2014, they headlined 'awakening' on their front page with a picture of Michael and his wife, Corinna. However, the picture would not be of Michael waking up, but examples of people awakening from a coma.
