Norris and McLaren had some 'incidents and setbacks' before Miami GP

5 May - 20:21

Lando Norris has said that the hot temperatures at the Miami Grand Prix are not playing into his hands before the races, saying that it is "not good for us [McLaren]."

Norris' qualifying performance

After a fantastic P2 at the Chinese Grand Prix two weeks ago, the 24-year-old came to the Miami International Autodrome with a brand-new package for his McLaren. The weekend started poorly for the Brit, only qualifying ninth for the sprint race on Friday, which he then was forced to retire from on the first lap after contact with Lance Stroll. However, he improved his performance for qualifying and made it up to P5, and he will be searching for another podium.

Weather 'is not my friend today'

But with the steadily improving results in Miami, the Brit has come out and said that the hot temperatures will not suit him and his papaya-coloured McLaren, but he is still confident he can get something out of the race. "I see it going well," said Norris about Sunday's race. "I'm confident. The car's been good all weekend. Obviously, it has been a little bit up and down with the results. But the team have done a great job. We've had a few individual incidents and setbacks but I'm confident we can get some good points today. I notice the wind is picking up quite a bit as well. That's not good for us. It's not my friend. These hot conditions are not in our favour but I'm not complaining.

Norris continued with his optimism for a positive result despite the worries of the weather: "I think we're in a good position. We're not far. It's two-tenths off pole and fifth, which makes it feel bad. But we're two and a half tenths of a pole, and that's not bad at all. We can still do something from here. We can pressure the guys ahead. We have two cars to use. So yeah, we're in a confident position. It's so hot that everything's about keeping the tyres in a perfect window. Not letting them get too hot.
