F1 to visit Miami: How do the sport and the NFL connect to each other?

1 May - 19:30

When Formula One fans watch the Miami Grand Prix, it will be hard not to notice that the track goes around the Hard Rock Stadium - the home of the Miami Dolphins. Here is how the worlds of F1 and the NFL collide.

Paddock in the Hard Rock Stadium

Not only does the track go around the Miami Dolphins' NFL stadium, but the paddock suite will also be set up on the field. It is a good chance for the team's players to meet the drivers. Last year, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa swapped shirts with Max Verstappen, while wide receiver Tyreek Hill tested Pierre Gasly's reflexes.

Hamilton and the Denver Broncos

Current Mercedes and soon-to-be Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton is an investor in the three-time Super Bowl champions Denver Broncos. The seven-time world champion is part of the Walton-Penner family's takeover, with that deal being finalised in 2022.

Investments in Alpine

The other way around, but from the same division, the AFC West, Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are part of the ownership group of Otro Capital that partially invested in Alpine in 2023. Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are also involved in the deal.

Which drivers support who?

Driving in his home Grand Prix this weekend, Williams driver Logsn Sargeant supports the Miami Dolphins, while Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll is a fan of the New York Giants. During the Aston Martin press conference leading up to the 2024 season, Stroll also said that he has to avoid spoilers from the Super Bowl and that he will watch the condensed version of the game later. The third driver from North America, Sergio Perez, is not known to support any team.

Daniel Ricciardo supports the Buffalo Bills and has met quarterback Josh Allen. He also declared himself to be part of the 'Bills Maffia' many times.
