This is what will happen to Verstappen's damaged Australia engine

During the first free practice session in Australia, Max Verstappen damaged his engine by driving hard over a curbstone. To be on the safe side, the team then put in a new engine, but what will happen to the damaged engine now?

After damaging the RB20's engine, Verstappen revealed that his team had replaced the engine prior to qualifying in Australia, just to be on the safe side. Although everything worked properly during qualifying, Verstappen had to pull his car over during the Grand Prix due to problems with the brakes.

Damaged engine becomes a spare

The damaged engine from FP1 can be repaired and will serve as a spare engine in the future. The team are happy that this will reduce the likelihood of having to use more engines and eventually incurring a penalty.

In his column in Speedweek, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says that the engine was removed just to be on the safe side, so Honda could check for damage. Thus, these damages do not appear to be that bad.
