Max Verstappen's last retirement was two years ago. Ironically, it also took place at the Australian Grand Prix, just like this time due to technical problems. Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner reacts to Verstappen's DNF and the race of Sergio Perez, who finished P5 in his RB20.

Horner reacts to Verstappen's DNF

First of all, Horner addresses the retirement of Verstappen, who saw his race end on the third lap due to a brake problem. "That brake problem is of course very disappointing. I think from the beginning of the Grand Prix it felt like he was stuck. He had some big moments and it felt like the handbrake was on. Very frustrating to have our first DNF in two years," said the team boss at Viaplay.

Perez was unable to make up for Verstappen's retirement for Red Bull. The Mexican started sixth due to a grid penalty but eventually managed to gain just one place. As a result, he lost his second place in the championship to Charles Leclerc. According to Horner, Perez had damage to his floor, which could explain his disappointing pace.

Floor damage for Perez

"We had some floor damage, so he lost quite a lot of downforce at the bottom of the car. That was tough on the tyres, which is very unusual for us. So there's a lot to learn from this race, but it's disappointing to leave here with only fifth place," concluded the Briton.

Furthermore, the Red Bull team boss further praised the performance of Carlos Sainz, who convincingly took victory. "Congratulations to Carlos, especially after the operation that removed his appendix. He drove a very, very strong race and was the dominant Ferrari driver. So congratulations to Carlos and Ferrari. The field has definitely moved closer together as a result," Horner said.
