Charles Leclerc has picked up most of the praise for Sauber's recovery this season, but Marcus Ericsson is adamant he should get some praise as well. While the Swede didn't get a 2019 Ferrari drive like his young team-mate, Ericsson has scored nine points. He claims the work he has put in has been crucial to the team.

The 28-year-old insists he's had his best year in Formula 1 which didn't look promising after the first race of the season. Sauber has scored 42 points, and they've lifted themselves into 8th place. Placed just six points behind Force India, Abu Dhabi could well create a big fight between these two teams.

In an interview with motorsport total, Ericsson talks about the recovery the team have made.

"In Melbourne, we followed Williams along with the field. After that, we've improved a lot, and I've got a stake in it, Charles and I worked hard with the team and tried to steer it in the right direction," Ericsson said.

Antonio Giovinazzi will replace Ericsson at the end of the season as he makes a move to IndyCar. Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen moves back to Sauber replacing Leclerc. Ericsson will remain as the Sauber's third driver, but he wants to show in Abu Dhabi what they'll miss.

"I do not want to close the door to the premier class, but now I'm going to America. At the end of the season, I want to prove to the team again why they will miss me," he added.

"They [Scchmidt Peterson Motorsport] seem to be happy that I'm coming, and I'm looking forward to moving there. I have high expectations, and I want to use the feeling of winning there."
