Perez questions Hamilton's transfer to Ferrari: 'Is always a big risk'

In early February, it was announced that Lewis Hamilton will make the switch from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025. The news was a real shock in the Formula 1 world. Of course, the news did not escape Sergio Perez either.

There have been many reactions to the news, which is not surprising: it is perhaps the biggest transfer within Formula 1 of the 21st century. Helmut Marko also reacted to the news within days. He claimed that the seven-time world champion would have lost faith in Mercedes.

Sergio Perez does think it will be a huge challenge for Hamilton. "I think it's a big risk in many ways. Joining a new team is always a massive challenge, because Charles [Leclerc] will be very established at Ferrari by the time he [Hamilton] comes in. There is also a massive regulation change in 2026, so that gives good opportunities again. But it's always a big risk to change teams. I think he really wanted to do it," Perez told Sky Sports.

Max Verstappen also commented on his rival's move to Ferrari. The Dutchman said it's not something that he would definitely copy later in his career. Meanwhile, Red Bull opted to use some of Mercedes' ideas on their RB20 launched on Thursday.
