Rumours are swirling about Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari. Will Hamilton make the switch to the team from Maranello? Mercedes do not wish to comment on the rumours.

Following the news from the Italian and Spanish media, GPblog inquired with Mercedes. The team revealed they do not wish to comment on the high-profile story. From Mercedes, there is nothing to say. There is also no response to the rumours about Hamilton's contract situation.

Why it is strange that Mercedes is not responding

Mercedes clearly communicated to the outside world last year that Hamilton and George Russell are secured with Mercedes until 2025. However, according to reports this morning, that would not quite be the case. In fact, Hamilton is said to have a 2024 contract with a one-year add-on option.

Rumours of a deal between Hamilton and Ferrari gained further momentum after reports from Spanish media. These managed to report that Carlos Sainz has also already been told that his contract will not be renewed. John Elkann and Frederic Vasseur are said to be pulling out all the stops to bring in the seven-time world champion. Ferrari did not respond to the rumours either.
