Aston Martin started 2023 tremendously well, scoring five podium finishes in the first six races. As the season progressed, things went downhill and the constructor achieved only three podium finishes in the rest of the season. Team boss Mike Krack is nevertheless very happy with his drivers, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

Krack happy with Stroll in team

Stroll faced huge criticism for his appearances with the media following his underperformance on the track. After an interview, he even pushed his own trainer, and caused even more controversy. Despite this, the Luxembourger is happy with his Canadian driver.

"Lance is in a great place. He's relaxed and self-confident. You can see it in his body language. It's very impressive how he has developed as a driver this year," Krack explained in an interview on the Aston Martin website. "I wish the season would have been a bit longer for him because he's been really fast in the final rounds. We can build on that. That's what needs to happen now, he just needs to pick up where he left off this season. He's overcome many challenges this year and now he's very much on the up."

Alonso gets praise from Aston Martin team boss

Alonso is still the oldest driver on the Formula 1 grid, even in 2024. The 42-year-old driver from Oviedo has already scored no fewer than eight podium finishes this year, and that with a car that does not seem optimal anyway. Like the average Formula 1 enthusiast, like Krack, the Spaniard commands a lot of respect.

"What Fernando has brought us is just outstanding. He drives us on and makes us better – it's that simple really. He is hugely ambitious and wants to be fighting for podiums every weekend," Krack said about the Spaniard. "The experience he brings is invaluable, but also the commitment. He isn't one of these drivers who turn up on a race weekend, does their thing and then disappears. There's always another question, another WhatsApp message pinging in, constantly looking for things we could improve."
