Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene believes Formula One chiefs would be "wrong" to "throw away" the experience of Pirelli for a brand new tyre supplier in the future.

F1's owners Liberty Media are considering switching tyre suppliers to Hankook and are currently weighing up the financial offers from them and Pirelli to become the tyre supplier of the sport from 2020 to 2023.

Both companies have been approved on technical grounds by the FIA; so the conclusive decision will come down to financial and commercial gains.

Pirelli have had some tricky times since becoming the tyre supplier in 2010, but Arrivabene thinks the sport would be making a mistake if they ditched the tyre supplier in the future.

"Today the tender is in Liberty's hands," Arrivabene told Motorsport.com. "We have been working for some time with Pirelli. We have had positive phases and difficult moments, but year after year they have created a product that has evolved positively.

"Throwing everything from the window seems to me to be wrong. But, having said that, we do not make the choice."

Pirelli have faced the difficult challenge of finding the balance between making the tyres degrade enough to try and make the races more exciting and also trying to make them durable enough for drivers to push hard on.
