The Grands Prix of Italy and Emilia-Romagna, held at the Monza and Imola circuits respectively, are close to a contract extension with Formula 1, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

New F1 contract nears for Monza and Imola'

F1 wants both circuits to be modernised before a contract extension is signed. Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI), is confident that this will be achieved in time. Both circuits have a contract that runs through 2025, but negotiations for an extension are said to be at an advanced stage.

"We already have an agreement, of which only the details are still missing, to sign a new contract that will keep both Italian GPs at Monza and Imola on the calendar for another five years," Damiani believes. "Two races on the calendar until 2030 would be an extraordinary result for our country."

The intention is to sign a pre-contract for both circuits before the end of 2024. For Imola, the envisaged modernisation would not pose a problem as all parties involved agree on the plans. For Monza, renewing the agreement with the Park Consortium is necessary because the circuit is located in a nature reserve. The current agreement expires at the end of 2028.
