Ross Brawn hopes Red Bull Racing will take a tip from Mercedes. The former Mercedes team boss argues that the current driver duo with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez does not provide enough excitement in F1.

Brawn has an impressive track record. The man who managed great successes with Benetton, Ferrari and BrawnGP, now sees a dominant Red Bull Racing. Brawn knows better than anyone how hard you have to work to become so dominant. Still, he hopes that a challenger to Verstappen and Red Bull Racing will eventually emerge.

A challenger to Red Bull is a matter of time, Brawn told TalkSport. "Even though they have this domination at the moment, you will see it in time," said the man in charge of the current technical regulations. McLaren is already banging on the door, according to Brawn, but Ross believes Red Bull itself could do something about its 'boring' F1 season.

Why Red Bull needs a stronger teammate for Verstappen

"What I want to see quite frankly is someone more competitive in the other car because unfortunately Sergio’s [Perez] not putting up much competition for Max [Verstappen]." For this, Brawn refers to his time at Mercedes. Then, under Brawn's leadership, Mercedes brought Lewis Hamilton to the team alongside Nico Rosberg.

"And even when you get a dominant car, if you can get someone in the other car who’s giving them a hard time and we think of [Nico] Rosberg and [Lewis] Hamilton, that was a great year and year when Mercedes were dominating."

The statements contradict the policies Brawn has implemented in the rest of his career. Brawn always had a clear number one with Michael Schumacher at Benetton and Ferrari. At Brawn and later Mercedes, that became somewhat different, but Hamilton came in mainly at the behest of Niki Lauda.
