Magnussen blamed for lack of respect: 'Treats it with indifference'

Kevin Magnussen did do his job in Miami, some think for the better, some thing for the worse. The Danish driver received multiple penalties in the sprint race and Grand Prix and got the necessary penalty points. Jan Lammers believes the 'indifferent' Haas F1 driver lacks a bit of respect.

Magnussen is still looking for a seat for next season. His contract with Haas F1 is expiring and it remains to be seen whether the 31-year-old driver will be eligible for a contract extension. "Sometimes that brings a little bit of frustration. And frustration can have to do with the fact that you feel you deserve more recognition that you get," Lammers began to tell in NOS' Formula 1 podcast.

Lack of respect?

"Then you come to the word respect. And then I still think he could do with a bit more respect for his other fellow drivers," he said. "If he wants more respect himself, you will still have to give it yourself first. So, I don't know. Sometimes he looks to be indifferent. You can race hard of course, but if you are indifferent to your own race and the race of others, it's not nice."

The former Formula One driver cites that there are huge stakes. "On balance, these are young guys who, often with their whole families, have given everything for years to make it [now] at the highest level in Formula 1. Logan Sargeant is having a very tough year and he showed a bright spot this race. He was reasonably close to Albon. There were a lot of positives to his race, he would have loved to have brought that car home and then it's just a shame it has to end this way," Lammers said.

Magnussen suspension looms

Not only for Sargeant, the consequences of making contact with Magnussen were major. For the guilty driver in the incident, the consequences were not minor either. Indeed, he received two penalty points from race control, bringing his total up to 10. Twelve penalty points will result in a suspension for one Grand Prix.
