Felipe Massa believes that Fernando Alonso could make a sensational switch to Formula E. The Spaniard will retire from Formula One at the end of the 2018 season with rumours of a full-time IndyCar drive the main objective, but in 2019 Massa says Alonso could be racing in the electric series instead.

Alonso has made clear he intends to conquer motorsport's Triple Crown, winning two stages of the three-part feat already with a win at the Monaco Grand Prix as well as a Le Mans 24 Hours triumph. Only the Indy 500 remains for The McLaren driver but recently it was confirmed he would not be driving in IndyCar full-time in 2019.

Former Ferrari teammate Massa says that it could open up an opportunity for him to try Formula E instead.

“He was thinking about Indycar, but now I think Formula E may have a better chance of getting him,” Massa told AS Newspaper.

“The Indy 500 is one thing, but for the championship I think Fernando may look at Formula E.

“It may be in a year, but I would not be surprised if it was earlier.”

Massa isn't the only one who is pining for Alonso to make the move to the series, Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag has reportedly offered Alonso €10 million to race in the 2018/2019 season.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the two-time F1 champion is a huge priority of Agag as he continues to explore ways to promote the series.

“He wants to win Le Mans and Indy but then he will be missing Formula E,” Agag said.

“It would be a privilege to have him.”
