Both Mercedes drivers were chasing the spots of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris in the Singapore Grand Prix. George Russell was driving in third place, while Lewis Hamilton was fourth in the race. Just before the end, things went wrong for Mercedes. Russell parks his W14 in the wall. Hamilton jumps into the breach for his teammate.

"He's been driving phenomenally all weekend, so it was really unfortunate for him, on the last lap, to finish that way," the seven-time world champion said. "He continues to grow, he's continuing to improve. I know that he's going to keep getting stronger and faster, and if there's any way I can help, I will be a part of that naturally over the next couple of years."

Hamilton thinks making mistakes is human

"I think it's just keeping your head down, but if you look at last year, for example, I made a mistake in turn seven and went off and crashed into the wall," explained the Englishman from Stevenage. "It can happen to any of us, and it's just one of those things," he concludes.

This event could be costly for team boss Toto Wolff's formation. Mercedes is second among constructors, but Ferrari is creeping ever closer. Next weekend is the Japanese Grand Prix, which means another moment for possible points for Russell and Hamilton.
