Mick Schumacher was pushed aside by Haas F1 and was changed for Nico Hulkenberg after 2022, but he is still closely involved in Formula 1 as Mercedes' reserve driver. The German is hopeful of a return to the grid. According to Schumacher, anything is possible and contracts can always be broken.

Schumacher says he is reckoning with another year on the sidelines, but refuses to give up hope of a return to Formula One. At Mercedes, Schumacher is in his place, but would prefer to be back in the F1 car and racing. For next year, that seems almost impossible now that almost the entire grid is already fixed. Williams and Alfa Romeo may still have a spot, but Guanyu Zhou and Logan Sargeant are expected to extend their contracts.

Schumacher hopes for seat for 2024

Speaking to SID.de, Schumacher reveals, "We have seen in the last two, three years that things can always change, even if the contracts are already signed. It would be wrong to give up hope." With a scant three months left in the 2023 F1 season, the chances seem slim. Should Schumacher fail to claim a seat, he could still have a fruitful time, another year at Mercedes.

Schumacher: "I have obviously thought about that too and at the same time am making plans for another year outside F1." Staying at Mercedes would be a good choice, as the German calls it a valuable step in his racing career: "[This experience] has brought me a lot, even more than I expected. The work in the simulator was useful. I was able to see how a top team operates."

Schumacher concluded his story with an open application to all Formula 1 team bosses, saying, "You haven't seen the real Mick yet."
