Liam Lawson is the replacement for the injured Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri. Earlier this season, Nyck de Vries was sacked from the Italian racing stable because of his underperformance at the team. Jan Lammers wonders whether Ricciardo is still good enough for Formula 1 and whether Lawson should just replace him permanently.

Ricciardo returned to the Formula 1 grid after six months and injured himself at Zandvoort. He broke his metacarpal so Lawson was declared his replacement. " We shouldn't forget that Ricciardo just had a huge number of chances," Lammers told the NOS Formula One podcast. "[Among other things] alongside Max of course. Last year at McLaren, he didn't perform."

Lammers on Lawson and Ricciardo situation

"Whether it's extenuating circumstances or not, you have to ask yourself if he has already had his peak and his chance in Formula One," the former Formula One driver continued. " That he breaks his wrist now is bad luck," says the 67-year-old former racing driver. "Bad luck of course you have with situations like this. It's just very sad for him, but if I had been AlphaTauri now I would have known," concludes the 1988 Le Mans 24 Hours winner.
