FIA president Jean Todt has stuck his neck out for former and future Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat, saying that the Russian doesn't make too many mistakes unlike what many people think.

Kvyat has been announced to make his comeback in F1 in 2019, as Toro Rosso have decided to give their former driver another shot in the car.

The still only 24-year-old Kvyat was under contract at Red Bull for several years, making the step up from Toro Rosso to Red Bull in 2015 and winning three podiums in a year. However, in 2016, he was demoted to make way for Max Verstappen, something from which he never recovered. At the end of 2017, he was let go from the Red Bull family.

"He is a very talented driver which he has demonstrated already," Todt told Russian news agency Tass.

"My son is his manager, and I am glad that he has come back to Formula One.

"He will have a good chassis and a good engine so I'm sure he will have a good performance," the Frenchman added.

"He had comparatively few mistakes.

"And if he is in Formula One, that means he is a very talented driver.

"If you make a lot of mistakes, you simply won't be in Formula One.

"If you are there it is because you perform."

Kvyat had been given the nickname 'Torpedo' by the fans because of his many collisions and his aggressive style of racing, but according to many, he's a changed man now. Let's see how 2019 pans out!
