Gasly: It could have been better today

Gasly: "It could have been better today"

On Honda's own track, they'll be disappointed not to be taking any points from this race. Pierre Gasly was in 10th place towards the end of the event, but Carlos Sainz was on a flyer and managed to pass the Toro Rosso. Gasly, a future Red Bull driver, claims the team's performance could well have been better.

Gasly finished the race in 11th, while team-mate Brendon Hartley finished in 13th. The team wanted to get more out of the race for Honda's sake in front of home fans, but it wasn't to be. This was reflected in Toro Rosso's post-race report.

"It could have been better today so we need to analyse more deeply what happened," Gasly said.

"We probably didn't make the best decisions, but that happens sometimes, it's easy to say in hindsight that we could have made different choices.

"It's just a shame after such a good Qualifying yesterday, It would have been great to reward the team and Honda here in Japan for their home race with some points today."

One positive from the race for Toro Rosso is how Sauber went pointless as well. The gap remains at 3 points in the battle for 8th in the constructors' championship.
