Next weekend the Belgian Grand Prix is scheduled at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Mercedes was already much closer to Red Bull at the weekend of the Hungarian Grand Prix than it was at the start of the season. The Formula 1 car [W14] is gradually getting better through updates. Team boss Toto Wolff looks ahead to the weekend in the Ardennes.

Updates to Mercedes' W14

"We will be bringing updates this weekend as part of our ongoing development programme. We hope this will be another small step forward in improving the W14. As we have seen at many races this year though, it is hard to predict where we will be relative to our competitors," the Mercedes team boss said in a Mercedes press release looking ahead to Sunday's race.

"Spa-Francorchamps is a classic venue and a real challenge for both the cars and the drivers, especially in the Sprint format with such a limited practice time on a long and challenging lap," Wolff leaves on record.

Wolff: 'Need to perform better'

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished fourth and sixth at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but Wolff does not think that is good enough. "We also encountered cooling limitations across both cars; we likely had the second-fastest car, but we must execute better if we are to deliver our full potential," the Austrian told reporters.
