Gasly on De Vries’ exit: ‘Just want to wish him the best’
Pierre Gasly is a man who knows Red Bull’s structure inside and out. The one-time race winner raced for the main team, AlphaTauri and was part of the team’s driver academy for a long time. The current Alpine driver explained his thoughts on the Ricciardo-De Vries switch that happened last week.
Gasly said he is looking forward to seeing Ricciardo back on the grid again. "I know them both. I think they're two fantastic drivers, and it's great to see Daniel back on the grid and seeing what's up for grabs with him."
"He [Ricciardo] is old enough, and he knows Franz [Tost] well enough to know what to do with him, but I just think he's great. He started there, he's back there now, he still has plenty of years ahead of him, and I've always enjoyed some battles with him on the racetrack, so hopefully it's going to be the case," Gasly said without giving any advice to Ricciardo on how he should deal with Tost this season.
On the other hand, he also had some sympathy for De Vries. "Obviously, kind of sad to see Nyck going, because I've known him for the past probably 15 years. Just know he's a great guy, and his chance probably didn't achieve as much as he would have liked, but I just want to wish him the best, and as Max said, there will be plenty of opportunities out there for him."
