McLaren, as a Formula One team and car manufacturer combined, have recorded another year with a net loss, with the Woking-based company recording £13.2 million in losses.

2016 already saw the company recording a loss, as a net loss of £3.2 million pounds was logged. That more than quadrupled in 2017, which is a concerning fact, to say the least. Especially as the company limited the losses by selling a host of classic cars on auction (around 20 million was made from that).

Another worrying factor is the fact that Honda actually paid McLaren to be partners instead of the other way around, as the Japanese are said to have paid somewhere around 55 million pounds to McLaren for the partnership. Now that they've moved on from Honda, that's another source of income gone.

The books show that sales did increase by almost 20 million, but so did the administrative costs. More people were also employed (675 to 706).

The company sold a part of its shares to Michael Latifi for around 200 million pounds, whose son Nicholas is active in Formula 2, where he sits ninth in the championship.

Of course, a cost that will fade away in 2019 is Fernando Alonso's salary, as the Spaniard was on a royal salary. Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz won't be paid as handsomely.
