Perez on "weekend to forget"

Sergio Perez definitely did not have one of his finer days at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing P16, having ended the race of his team mate Esteban Ocon and also making contact with the Williams of Sergey Sirotkin.

We have come to learn that although Perez is a ridiculously quick driver on his day, he can also be liable to the occasional crash and scrape.

That was obvious at the Marina Bay Circuit, where on the exit of turn three he made contact with Ocon and sent him into the wall, ending his race.

It is not the first time the two Force India drivers have come together, with Spa 2017 being one particular incident that sticks in the memory.

Perez has accepted blame for the incident but retains that he did not see Ocon: “On lap one I was coming out of turn three, picking up the power and all of a sudden I felt a hit.

“I didn’t know who it was and then the team told me it was Esteban.

“I feel so bad for the team because we really need to be scoring points at every race and it should have been a great day for us.”

Perez also made contact with Sirotkin later in the race, and the Mexican says that he did not expect the Williams to have the pace it had on Sunday.

He added: “I think we underestimated how difficult it would be to overtake the Williams and Sirotkin was defending very hard and moving around under braking.

“When I finally got alongside him, I tried to close the door a bit too early and we made contact.

“It’s a weekend to forget and I am really sorry for what happened and the points we have lost today.”
