Carlos Sainz has finished qualifying in P2 in his home Grand Prix in Barcelona. While the Ferrari driver was far off Verstappen, he was the best of the rest today. On the other hand, his teammate, Charles Leclerc finished in P19.

In the post-session interview with Marc Gené, Sainz said it was really challenging to get in a good lap time in these changing conditions. “I needed it, very tricky conditions. Even getting through Q1 and Q2 without any issues. Putting a good lap with only one set in Q3. was probably one of the trickiest qualifying sessions I have had here in terms of conditions.”

Podium is the minimum on Sunday:

“I think we are in the best possible position going into tomorrow and now we can focus on getting the podium tomorrow.  I was very good today, I felt like I was driving very well. It's always one tenth here, one tenth there. I didn't leave anything on the table today, I was pushing hard. It was hard. I think P2 was as far as I could make it today,” Sainz added.

Sainz also thanked the fans for the support in Spanish. “Thank you, today as you could see it was tricky for everyone out there, the conditions were realistically hard, and the fans definitely helped my lap time in this Q3, in Q1, Q2 and Q3 as well, because in every session I was on the limit and tomorrow I will go for the podium.”
