Domenicali on Verstappen's view of new formats: 'Discussed that with him'

Max Verstappen has made it clear on several occasions that he is not happy with the new formats in Formula 1. The Dutchman even indicated he would leave the sport if it continues like this. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali does not think this will happen and says he has discussed this with Verstappen.

Formula 1 is currently working on a lot of new formats for its race weekends. In Baku, for instance, the sprint format introduced in 2021 was changed. From now on, a sprint weekend will feature two qualifying sessions and only one free practice. A trial run with the qualifying format was scheduled in Imola, but that weekend was cancelled due to severe weather.

Verstappen is clearly not a fan of all the try-outs in F1 and said that this removes the DNA of the sport. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dominecali says he is not afraid of losing the two-time world champion early.

"I discussed the issues with Max before the last race in Miami. He said he loved the sport and what he was doing. He is world champion and is fighting for a third title. He was born in a car. I would say he is likely to stay longer than me. It’s not a problem," said the Formula One boss.
