De Vries shrugs: 'My mistake'

Nyck de Vries has reached out after the Miami Grand Prix. The AlphaTauri driver acknowledges that he went wrong at the start, hitting Lando Norris and messing up his own race.

"We couldn't do much after the first lap. I tried to 'save' the mediums very much to go long, but then we decided to do an undercut. I think the speed on the hard tyre was okay, but then you miss the tow and the connection with DRS and then you are faster or as fast in all corners, but because of the time you miss on the straight you don't get there. It was a long race," De Vries looks back.

De Vries falls back to last place

De Vries hit Norris at the start, dropping from P15 to last place. From there, it was basically done for the 28-year-old driver from Sneek. " My mistake," he said. "He [Norris] had a very good start on softs and he passed me. It happened in a split-second and then I blocked both wheels."

The AlphaTauri driver was hoping for incidents ahead of him, but none materialised. "Then you lie at the end and then you have to hope for a safety car and hope you can get back in." So, once again, no points for De Vries.
