Valtteri Bottas has tried to enjoy his time off in the summer, but the constant breaking news in the Formula One has made it impossible for the Finn to not be informed about what's going on in the sport, he revealed.

A lot has happened in the month the F1 has had its summer break. First, Daniel Ricciardo broke the internet when he announced he was leaving Red Bull Racing for Renault next season. Then, Fernando Alonso announced his retirement from Formula One after this season, followed by McLaren announcing fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz will be driving in the papaya-orange cars next season.

"I was not going to follow the news but it's been literally climbing into my ears," Bottas joked to the Finnish media.

"Daniel Ricciardo made a serious decision because he wants to completely change his environment and take on a new challenge.

"Fernando Alonso had a long and successful career in F1 and at some point he realised that it was time to stop. And Carlos Sainz will take his place and perhaps that change will do him good," Bottas laughed.

When asked about his current season, Bottas insisted that he's still very much in the title race, despite a terrible string of bad luck this season, which has prevented him from winning a race up until this point.

"Actually, I'm determined to continue to fight for the championship as long as there is a theoretical chance.

"It will only change if the team decides it.

"Of course, Mercedes' interests are always above our own, so the decision will be made by the team, not by me," the Finn concluded after completing a duathlon he organized.
