Austria has a rich Formula One history and although, with Toto Wolff, Franz Tost and Helmut Marko, there are still several Austrians in important positions within the king class of motorsport, it has been years since a driver managed to win a Grand Prix. It is possible we will see new Austrian blood enter Formula 1 in the future. Helmut Marko is keeping an eye on two young drivers.

Charlie Wurz, son of former Formula 1 driver Alexander Wurz, has appeared on the Red Bull Racing advisor's cog. The 17-year-old talent recently competed in the Formula Regional championship in New Zealand and he fared very well. Thanks in part to four poles and four wins, he managed to finish at the top of the rankings after 15 races. Previously, drivers such as Lance Stroll, Lando Norris, Liam Lawson and Robert Shwartzman won this championship.

Wurz jr. impresses

Speaking to Kronen Zeitung Marko said: "In Formula 4, he often had a weight handicap (in Italian Formula 4, he finished fourth on behalf of Prema Racing last year, ed.) and although the championship in New Zealand is less international, it remains an indicator. In any case, we are following Charlie. In Formula 3, we will find out where he really stands."

In 2023, Wurz Jr. will compete in Formula Regional Europe, a kind of intermediate class between Formula 3 and Formula 4. The Austrian driver would like to drive Formula 3, but: "For the next step, I still have to find the financial means," stated father Alex. Possibly Red Bull could contribute to that, should they contract the Austrian driver for the junior programme.

Besides Wurz Jr, Kiano Blum is also on a list at Red Bull. Blum is currently impressing in karts.
