Stoffel Vandoorne has gone with an old chassis for the Hungarian Grand Prix as he looks to solve his handling problem.

McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne has reverted back to an old chassis to try and solve his mystery handling problem, as his team run out of options.

Vandoorne has wanted this for a while in a bid to get him some points, claiming he's been "pushing the team" for a change of chassis.

"Over the past couple of races we started to change a lot of parts and there came a point where we nearly did everything we could and that was one of the last pieces remaining," Vandoorne told RaceFans.net.

"It's not easy for the team to do that, especially when it's a back-to-back race. But they've managed it."

McLaren said in Germany that the Belgian's car was producing less downforce than Fernando Alonso's was, his team-mate.

"The first lap in Silverstone, is where it just didn't feel right from the start," Vandoorne added.

"I think we've been last in every session since."

It still remains a mystery to McLaren why this is happening, though, Vandoorne confirmed.

"There's no specific area we can say 'okay that's what's causing it'," Vandoorne said.

"Tomorrow we have a couple of tests in place across the cars to further understand. Hopefully tomorrow we spot nothing, as that means the two cars are going to be good."

Vandoorne is pointless since way back in April when he scored two points in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
