Despite being rejected four times in Formula 1, the Dutchman, Nyck de Vries continued to believe in his dream. Next year, de Vries will be on the grid with a full-time seat at AlphaTauri. Speaking to DAY1, the 27-year-old driver revealed how he became the best version of himself.

A move to Formula 1 no longer seemed feasible for De Vries, but when he was suddenly allowed to fill in for the ill Alexander Albon in 2022, everything changed. The Dutchman managed to score two points for Williams and immediately attracted the attention of several F1 teams. Not long later, De Vries signed a contract with AlphaTauri as Pierre Gasly's replacement.

De Vries on key to success

Next season will be an important year for the Dutch driver, who has to convince both his new team and Helmut Marko of his talent. "I get to live my dream and I am very much looking forward to that. I will of course do everything I can to perform and score points," De Vries said in the interview.

The brand-new AlphaTauri driver is asked how to become the best version of yourself. "I'm a perfectionist, so it's never good enough. A key to success, there is no such thing. It's a side effect of a lot of different factors. Everything starts with passion for what you do and then the goal, which for me were very clear: Motorsport and Formula 1. Then everything becomes easier after that, because that is the direction," the Dutchman replied.

On 11 February, De Vries and Yuki Tsunoda's new car will be unveiled in New York. The 2023 AlphaTauri has been renamed the AT04.
